New Media VIew

I'll try to track our efforts to provide an election guide for the mid-Missouri area by working with multiple newsrooms in the area.

Welcome bloggers

Did you know anyone can be a blogger? Seriously. If you are reading this and you like to write your thoughts down, then you have the ability to be a blogger.

If my street represents Missouri...

If my street represents the state of Missouri... Then we are really split on who should be president. Almost every household has a McCain or Obama sign in the front yard. It's really interesting to drive through and see the clusters of each candidate support. it's also really nice to know all of my neighbors get along and it isn't divided by party line.

I'm curious if a lot of neighborhoods are like mind. I don't recall seeing such a split like this. I'll try to ride my bike through the street with my Flip camera to document the experience. It's really cool.

A Six Year Old's View of the Presidential Election

There's something very interesting about my six year old son. He is fascinated by
presidential politics. Seriously. He's into this. During the primaries
he would check the delegate numbers to see who was ahead. He's
discussed how he thinks Obama can beat McCain because Obama beat
Clinton. (And he wanted Clinton to win) This week he told me he
wants John McCain to win. Tonight he told me he wants Barack Obama to
win.

I never tell him where I stand and that drives him nuts.

Where are the posters?

I have spent a lot of time trying to get the word out at SD08. I'm wondering why most people visit the site aren't interested in signing up and sharing their thoughts.

What do you think? Is it intimidating? Are you concerned about the design? What can I do to convince you that this is a cool project?

Earth Day talk

I spent a few hours at Columbia's Earth Day celebration. In between chasing my kids around, I had a chance to talk to a lot of parents with kids in the Columbia Public School District.

Welcome to Smart Decision!

To those of you who are new to Smart Decision, welcome. I'm thrilled to be one of the leaders of this project and I look forward to reading and hearing what mid-Missouri has to say about the election season and the issues that matter to you.

Coming into shape

As one of the founders of Smart Decision '08, my goal has been to offer information about the upcoming elections AND offer any and all the chance to join in on the conversation.

I think we're at a point where we can do just that.

Testing a blog

This is a test post to see how it would look with text and other stuff.

NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll

NBC and the Wall Street Journal released a new poll today. It shows a shift in what is considered important to Americans. You can see the comparison between December and November of this year. I think it's pretty interesting to see a shift in attitudes before voters start heading into the primaries. It also makes it more important for us all to start conversations about what is important to us... Who do we really want to vote for in the upcoming presidential election. Why?

My quest

I have this thing about the election season. My feeling is every type of newsroom offers fantastic information to help inform voters or people who are considering the chance to vote. That's why I hoped to team KOMU.com with content from KBIA.org and columbiamissourian.com. Each newsroom offers information that help tells a story about important issues and players during the election season. I thought it would be an incredible service to offer all of that information and perspective in one spot on this site.
